Maven was so pissed she could spit hot coals!

What the fuck! She’d been mad at Cy before but mad wasn’t anywhere near the level of anger scorching and coursing through her veins.

“Let me get that for you.” Cy reached for her garment bag laid out over Channing’s in the trunk full of luggage.

Like a defiant child, Maven grabbed the exposed hangers jutting from the top of the bag and pulled the handful of garments out of Cy’s grasp. She hoisted them over her shoulder.

“Oh-kay.” Cy lifted his brow as she stepped in front of him. She caught Channing’s uneasy glance as he stood beside his brother waiting to grab his bags.

She should have felt bad for Channing, stuck in the middle of whatever it was she and Cy were currently disputing, but she hadn’t room for sorry with all the piss and vinegar in her at the moment.

So, childhood theatrics it was.

Pulling his garments from the trunk, Channing flung the bag over his shoulder and stood awkwardly waiting for his luggage.

Cy lifted Maven’s oversized suitcase with one hand and set it beside the bumper then reached in for her second, just as large bag. He set it next to the previous bag.

“You pack as much as Mrs. Howell’s three-hour tour?” Cy set Maven’s smaller bag on its rollers and extended the handle, then reached in for a leather satchel.

Maven didn’t find his comparison to Gilligan’s Island funny in the least, and hastily flung the satchel over her shoulder, then pulled up on the retractable handle of the largest of the three luggage bags while juggling the garment bag over her other shoulder.

Channing watched with amusement and pulled out his single suitcase, while the lovers scorned silently battled each other. He closed the trunk, securing it with a click. “I’ll greet the valet.”

In her snit, she hadn’t noticed the bellman with a luggage cart waiting to take their bags. Not wanting to be a bitch to the poor man who got stuck waiting on them, Maven gave him a wide smile and her normal chipper tone. “How are you today?” Turning on the charm, she hung her garment bag on a hook then offered him her hand.

Shaking it, he answered, “Very well, thank you, ma’am. May I take your bag?”

Maven pulled the smaller of the cases to the cart then turned to grab the other two but fell short when Cypher lugged both bags by their sturdy straps, every corded muscle in his arms ripped and showcased, and placed them on the awaiting cart.

“Neanderthal,” Maven muttered low but loud enough that he could hear.

Cy gave his signature smile, but she didn’t miss the facade behind it. He wasn’t about to let it go. She knew they would have it out once they got to their room. She was tempted to get separate rooms, or at least separate beds, but Channing had standing reservations at the five-star hotel and their rooms were already waiting.

“After you, ma’am.” The bellman motioned for Maven to precede him into the hotel.
